For the first time, ever, I had a week that was light on the school and light on the work. So, since this is truly kismet and will probably never happen again, I made a point to go to at least one different group fitness class everyday. My school has a gawgeous new gym with a variety of classes Monday - Thursday, so why not drag my butt up there and try a new one everyday?
And the great thing about group fitness is you invite a friend and then you have to go, because you can’t bail on your friend or you’re deemed a flake. Accountability. It WORKS.
Anyway, here are my thoughts on the different classes.
Zumba: I avoided this class like the PLAGUE. I thought it was a cheap excuse for exercise and also embarrassing. But I finally relented and I get why it’s so popular. Its an intense work out that you don’t even notice because you’re having so much fun. Loved it. Will 110% go back.
Kick Boxing: This hurts. Plus our group fitness room is really small so it gets a little dangerous. But the instructor is super toned especially in the arm area. I want that. Will go back (begrudgingly)
Abs Express: Love this because it’s quick (30 minutes) and effective, and let’s face it, who doesn’t want better abs?
Step: At the beginning of the class I thought it was way too easy and at the end of the class I was dying. I was also sore for like 2 days. Another class that I will go back to for a kick ass workout, but I’ll have to push myself to go.
Yoga: I hated this class. Maybe because the instructors are students and not super seasoned. Maybe because I was hoping for a great arm and ab work out and instead spent an hour stretching my Step-sore legs. Maybe it was too crowded. I don’t know. I’ll probably go back because yoga is hipster-cool and I want to be zen. I have good reasons for fitness y’all.
Cardio & Core: Did this tonight because I didn’t have a lot of time to work out and thought it would be a quicker way to get everything in. And it was. My abs, arms, and legs feel thoroughly exercised.
So these are my thoughts. And if your school or gym offers group classes grab a friend and GO and find one you like. It’s a great work out!
